There are a number of different cruises. Firstly, on ships in the half. These trips are generally 4-5 hours, or to return early in the morning, afternoon, or leave shortly after noon and again in the afternoon. In summer there are hiking in the dark of night. After 3 / 4 day trips early in the morning and returnafternoon. Full day trips are usually so nights on the eve of the return and the end of the afternoon. Finally, there are tours at sea, either overnight or for several days.

Normally, the trip is longer, the best fishing boats, as they spend more time traveling to the best fishing spots. Often in summer, when / 2 day 1 and 3 / 4 days along with fishing boats the. Remember, nobody can guarantee a good game, so while that may someday be bigger, can be bad the next. Record of a giant squid from a few years ago that was running open - every night they are holding hundreds of kilos of squid. I was on the boat, one night after a catch at night. They were also in the morning half-day boats catching squid. Tonight, eight orNine boats were out, everyone was surprised with 75 or more people on board, not just a squid. It's called "fishing" and not "captured", so anything can happen.

The next time in California to give local saltwater fish to try. It is great fun for the whole family.

Turn off the interstate at the foot of the hills in Morganton, then a cruise through the town like Mayberry, soon we will be based on the curves, Table Rock overlooking the mountains and numerous, the heat of the summer and fusion. From time to time to get caught behind a local, nothurry to get somewhere, immediately ran into the fast lane and accelerated on its way.

We put in 105 in Linville and we knew we were coming. Cruise in the next seven kilometers in the shadow of Grandfather Mountain, who came to Tynecastle stone buildings, turned left into the valley past Sugar Mountain and Banner Elk in the city. We had reservations in Banner Elk Inn Bed & Breakfast done, so he shot right at the only traffic, and check soon

HisFor the cocktail, which lengthens the legs with a walk in the cool of the city and visited some local restaurant, then crossed the street and turned to stone walls that had enjoyed an excellent dinner of roast meat.

Saturday was a day of cruising the area. After a hearty breakfast at the inn, chair and we went to Linville Falls, took us to the Blue Ridge Parkway. To the north of Blowing Rock, Blue Ridge Parkway is full of narrow streets andMountain View, one of the best ways to travel in the mountains of North Carolina.

Shortly after the collision with the Parkway, we arrive at the Grotto Viaduct Linn. A marvel of technology is the bridge Viaduct Grandfather Mountain winds increased to about eight kilometers, and has some of the best views of the mountain Parkway. Designed to work in combination, the bridge is a good example of Mother Nature and man co-exist. We stopped for a walk path that goes below theLinn Cove Viaduct, a better vision of stunning architecture.

Julian Price Park was the next stop on the highway, a primitive camp and a beautiful lake which offers excellent trout fishing. The park covers 4,000 hectares and has 25 kilometers of hiking trails. On the way back to 105 in Banner Elk, we have fun in this very narrow and small, who decided to seven demons, a resort with the Hawks Nest ski resort and golf coarse in the upper peak the mountain.

After a day return trip to Banner Elk, we went to Happy Hour at the Grill and Bayou ahumadero and stayed all night, down steep brewskis, TexasStyle Bar-B-Que, and some great Cajun cooking of Louisiana.

Sunday was the day the Big Daddy of all to win, Grandfather Mountain. Once on the road all day Saturday, today, we want to do some serious hiking.

The well-marked path that took us through some difficult terrain with ease with ropes and wooden stairs are on rock climbing walls for help, and different views open, where we could see Mount Mitchell horizon, and apartments in Sugar Mountain Sugar Top, as we saw the cloud cover below us.

Never in the top of Calloway Peak, the higher you climbmore difficult, but we can always bring a good workout, and the walk down was so difficult to cultivate. We are back to the parking suspension bridge, was hold your breath, then cycling for the journey back home. It's good to have the vibration of the road again in us, and by the time he left the foothills of Morganton, the fresh mountain wind is always a beautiful memory.

Whether by bike, car or truck, a trip to the Blue Ridge MountainsMountains of North Carolina is a great way to beat the heat. The ant and the flag of Grandfather Mountain area is dotted with holiday homes of people throughout the Southeast, in large part to escape the hot and humid summers of Florida.

Cock Fighting in Thailand

Frequent visitors to Thailand would be very surprised to learn that Cock Fighting is actually a very popular 'sport' in the country. There is documentary evidence to show that it was taking place in 1562 but it is believed to have been common for many hundreds of years before that. It is not predominantly a city based activity however and most events are held in the outer suburbs and rural areas in the country's 70+ licensed venues. Illegal events are not unknown.

Cock Fighting was first introduced to Britain by Julius Caesar and very popular until it was made illegal by Queen Victoria in 1845. It still carries on as an illegal activity in many areas. In the USA it has gradually become against the law in each state until the last, Louisiana, banned it in 2008. In Asia however it is extremely popular in most countries and especially in the Philippines where it is almost the national 'sport'. It is more popular than traditional sports like football.

Though gambling is illegal in Thailand it still operates in a round about way at Cock Fighting events with money exchanging hands as 'prize' or 'purchase' cash. This is one of the reasons that it is a popular activity. A Cock Fight will attract a large audience and coupled with drink and food on hand it become a day out as well as a very exciting event.

Large amounts of money will exchange hands on such days. With birds exchanging hands for up to 20,000 Thai Baht a time and ticket and 'prize' money it is not unusual for quarter of a million Baht to be made. Fights will take place all day and birds and their trainers move from venue to venue. Birds will even be taken over borders to neighbouring countries to take part in fights. Such birds had their own passports including photo and health certificate. During the bird flu epidemic in 2004 such activities were held up as a cause and a temporary ban placed on the movement of birds. Many birds had to be slaughtered and it was an economic disaster who earned their living by fighting cocks. Prior to the bird flu there was estimated to be 30 million fighting cocks in Thailand.

Today some people make their entire living in the fighting cock market. Birds are bred, housed, trained and sold. There is even quite a lucrative market in the export of birds which is reputed to make something in the region of a million Baht annually.

Cock Fighting is only legally allowed to take place on Sundays in Thailand. There have long been efforts to try and have the law relaxed but the judiciary are holding strong. The 'sport' is showing a resurgence in Thailand with International events being staged and even an attempt to make the 'sport' more 'humane'. In legal fights in Thailand the birds wear 'boxing gloves' to cover their spurs unlike other countries where the spurs are enhanced with blades.

Discover Themed Vacations - A Great Way to Spend Your Time Off

Below are some great ideas on how to spend your vacation. If you are tired of doing the same old thing or visiting the same old place, then let us brainstorm some ideas with you to ensure your trip is wonderful.

Maybe you have some extra money this time and want to try something different? Let's take a journey and discover some great theme vacations...

Some people have a passion they want to pursue, like cooking or mountain biking and they would like to learn more about it or share their passion with others. By creating a theme vacation that immerses the vacationer in a topic, place or activity, the tour companies and hospitality industries have wisely tapped a previously unexplored vein of income.

Let's assume that your trip is planned with travel experts and tour guides. Whether your passion is Egyptology, music, golf, or architecture, or whether you are one of those people who just wants to sit on the best beaches and perhaps do a little snorkeling, a "theme" vacation will give you plenty of exposure to the things you love the most.

You may get a really cheap deal on a Nile trip with an inexperienced tour company. Weigh the value and safety of the trip. Choose a company that has negotiated the best access to historical sites and one that will provide adequate security and lodging. Go with a company that is a bit more expensive, so that your trip isn't a nightmare.

A good theme vacation can cost you anywhere from $1,500 to $3,500 (and sometimes, even as much as $5,500 for exotic or hard-to-reach destinations or dangerous locales that require assistance and security or trained guides), depending on the length of stay and the distance you must travel to get there and participate in the activities. So be prepared to spend some money!

Look at the itinerary and decide if you are up to the challenge. If you are going to mountain bike in China, and you have only just started your mountain biking exercise and conditioning, you may not yet be ready for such an intense journey. If you fall behind or have problems, you may lose your dream trip and your money.

Visit Hawaii, do some sight-seeing and attend the NFL pro bowl, or any one of many other experiences. Attend the Rose Bowl, and get grandstand seats to watch the Rose Bowl Parade. If you want to play football, you can play in the historic Los Angeles Coliseum or play in the Disney Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, FL.

You can even play baseball in other countries, sightsee and enjoy the local cuisine and activities and live out your baseball dream all at the same time. Join a tour and visit Panama, Japan Costa Rica, Australia, China, Prague, the Dominican Republic, Mexico City, Greece, Israel and even Paris, all while playing baseball and loving every minute of your journey.

A multi-million dollar industry of resorts, vacations and experiences that immerse you in the golf experience, teach you how to play a better game and provide beautiful surroundings in which to play and sightsee. How about playing in Ireland on Royal Portrush, Tralee, Ballybunion, or Portmarnock? You can even take a golf CRUISE, playing in the Bahamas, Bermuda, Mexico, or Hawaii.

Take a bike tour of Georgia or North Carolina and bike through wine country. Or bike the New England coastline and back roads. How about a cross country trip in British Columbia, or a Rocky Mountain ride including Mount Seven. Sharpen or develop skills with a novice or women's biking vacation and camp. Travel the Inca Trail in Peru from Andahuaylos to Cusco.

Hunt Axis Deer in Florida, take an exotic hunting trip to Namibia's Kalahari Desert to see and hunt more than 20 species, and do some shark fishing on the same trip. Hunt pronghorns in New Mexico, or moose or brown bear in Alaska or fly-in for caribou and black bear trips starting at Lake Hood and going to Alaska's Lake Clark.

Go on a yoga retreat in the Colorado Rockies, with plenty of outdoor contemplation and meditation time. Travel to Mexico to San Blas for a yoga retreat or immerse yourself in yoga under the jungle canopy in Belize. You can find yoga retreats in Mayan Tulum, Costa Rica and closer to home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of the United States.

Get started on a weight loss program or to get in better shape, by visiting a weight loss spa and hike in the beautiful hills of Vermont, or take a luxury weight loss break in France, or Hilton Head and learn how to change your lifestyle, eat better and exercise, all while vacationing in a beautiful environment.

History themed cruises allow you to hear speakers, historians and authors talk about places and events as you visit the sites. Take a history cruise off the coast of Massachusetts, or a Black History cruise, or cruise on the Potomac or take an Alaskan Natural History Tour, or join a Gold Rush Tour in Australia, Alaska, Canada or California.

Take an archeology tour in Albania, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Croatia, Peru or Italy, or through the Aegean or Mesopotamia. You can head to China or Tibet or take an archeological cruise along the Carian Coast. Go to the Himalayas, Europe, Sub-Sahara, Asia or Central America and learn from the scholars who lecture and lead expeditions to study in the area.

If you are an antique collector or want to learn about antiques, you can take a German antiquing tour accompanied by a professional, or perhaps you'd prefer Prague or the Czech countryside. Take the Heart of Europe antiques tour of Dresden, Bohemia and Saxony, among other locations, or a guided tour of Great Britain's best antique locations.

Whether you are looking for a family vacation, a romantic beach getaway with a beachfront rental or a beach vacation with adventure and activities, you will have no trouble finding the perfect fit. You can choose a resort, a cruise that stops in several ports or plop on a beach near a rented beachfront home and read your favorite novel.

Visit the quaint, historic town of Saratoga Springs, NY and enjoy horseracing on an old track, or attend the Triple Crown races. You can even stay in a chateau and watch horseracing in Chantilly, France. Watch the greyhounds race in Texas or Florida, and Australia. Pursue your dog racing passion and see the sights around the Walthamstow dog-racing stadium in London.

'Mancations' are the rage, with more options than ever for you to "get away with the boys". RVing, backpacking, fishing, hunting; even guy's movie vacations. Women's vacations are not what they used to be. There are plenty of genteel tours in Savannah and Charleston, and Grecian tours, but just as many exciting vacations to Burma and downhill ski trips in Montana.

For Singles (straight, gay or lesbian), there are New Year's Western cruises, Jewish cruises and Caribbean cruises, and the singles cruise scene is very active. You can take an exciting or more exotic singles trip to Thailand, Turkey or Cambodia, or even go to a Dude Ranch, and there are plenty of singles adventure vacations, as well.

Great travel ideas for seniors or baby boomers abound. Some are guided and some allow you to wander free and explore on your own and some are adventurous! Rent a vacation apartment in Europe, head to Sydney, Australia or ride the rails! Maybe you'd like to study Spanish abroad or visit Egypt or Asia in a small group, with personalized attention.

There are plenty of musical vacations to get your heart humming. You can take an escorted music tour in Paris or cruise on the Danube with the Vienna Boys' Choir. You can visit Branson or Nashville's Grand Ole' Opry. You can take a jazz or Broadway music cruise or attend a two-week jazz school in France, or sing in the Berkshires.

If you love movies, you can visit Universal Studios in Orlando or California, or Warner Brothers Studios, or take a tour of a move studio in California. You can also live your fantasies by following the path of your favorite movies: Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, and any one of many other locales where movies were filmed.

Take a vacation that brings your passion for books to life. Have you read the DaVinci Code? Take a tour that will take you to the places mentioned in the book. Take a Harry Potter tour or a Pride and Prejudice Tour, or any one of a number of other book-based tours, or take a cruise with lectures and rub elbows with authors.

Take a driving or biking wine tour, visit Spain or Portugal and sample the wine while seeing the sights. Travel the Shawangunk Wine Trail in New York, take a tour of the Burgundy and Northern Rhone regions in France or sample Chilean wine or visit Napa Valley or Virginia Wine Country. You can even take a women's wine vacation with your friends.

Learn to cook in Australia, France, Spain, Thailand or another exotic locale. Perhaps your tastes run more toward sampling the fare, rather than cooking it yourself. Take a cuisine cruise, or visit Sicily, Tuscany, Asia, Vietnam, Vienna, India or Spain to indulge. Take an historical train ride through Canada and British Columbia and enjoy only the best cuisine.

Take a marine eco- vacation in Canada or help rescue seals, a marine biology vacation in the Philippines, or participate in a Labrador whale study. Visit the Kennedy Space Center, or NASA museum in Washington, D.C. or spend your vacation in a space camp. Take the Galapagos volcano tour, study the African continent or visit the rainforest canopy in Costa Rica.

Take out trip insurance if it is available so you can preserve your investment by going later or if you have to cancel the trip altogether. Health emergencies, travel snags or instability in a particular country may cause problems with any and all vacations but the cost of a theme vacation can be steep so insurance is even more important on these trips.

Whether you want to use a 'plan your own vacation' company to help you with travel and location plans or you are the 'do it yourself' type who wants to do the research and plan your own trip step-by-step on your own, there are many options for planning your vacation. We have provided links to help you make your plans.

Ideas For Shopping in Bangkok

During your Thailand trip, you'll be expected to haggle at all of the stalls in the street markets of Bangkok. A good amount to start at is half the asking price. If you want to have a little fun, you can bluff by starting to walk away - if the seller doesn't call you back you'll know that your opening bid was too low.

Khao San Road: Situated in the heart of Bangkok, Khao San Road is a hub of somewhat crazed activity and an essential part of any Thailand tour or trip. It's home dusty silver shops, stalls selling fisherman's pants and t-shirts, Pad Thai vendors, a fast food joint or two and the occasional elephant! This is a great place to pick up cheap books, CD's and souvenirs such as the infamous croaking frog while you're travelling in Thailand.

Pat Pong night market: Located in the most famous neighbourhood in Bangkok, you should make time in your Thailand travel agenda to go least once in the evening. This is where you'll find everything from fake watches to imitation sunglasses. The market itself lies in the middle of the red light district- but it's not dangerous. We found prices here very high compared to other markets, so haggle hard. It's quirky, and another really authentic Thailand experience.

Siam Square: This is the heart of the business centre, full of western brands such Hard Rock Cafe and McDonalds and you'll find many expats in this area. This is a good place to be if you fancy going to the cinema (just stand up for the national anthem!). All the big superstores can be found here as well, with all sorts of software and DVDs at incredibly cheap prices. It's the flipside of Thailand and will give you a totally different perspective on your Thailand trip.

MBK: At eight stories high, this shopping center hosts around 2,000 shops and services, including the 4-story Tokyu department store, restaurants and entertainment areas. You can buy anything from 'designer' jean, to shoes, to DVD's, to mobile phones, all at a really great price. While you're travelling in Thailand, you should definitely try to squeeze in this experience.

Chatuchak: Chatuchak weekend market covers over 35 acres and is well worth a visit. It is very busy, with a huge variety of stalls and gets quite hectic by lunch time. You can easily spend an entire day there and not get to every stall. It is best to get there early to avoid the crowds and the searing heat of the midday sun. You can find clothes, souvenirs, shoes, food, T-shirts, and even pets (dogs, rare birds, fish, and even snakes). The market only takes place on Saturday and Sundays and it's a great place to pick up gifts before the end of your Thailand trip.

Chinatown: Packed with market stalls, street-side restaurants, Chinese medicine shops and probably the highest concentration of gold shops in the city, Chinatown is an experience not to miss. This historic area is as old as Bangkok itself, its growth spawned by waves of Chinese immigrants who left communist China, settled down here and continued what they did best: trade.

Got you thinking? Try building your own Thailand Travel Plan and make time for shopping in Bangkok.

The Splash of Songkran

The Songkran festival has been known to be one of the most important and grandest events of Thailand. It is a time of Buddhist rituals, of family gatherings to pay gratitude to elders and of course of water splashing. Deriving from the Sanskrit word, "Songkran" means to pass or to move into. In this case, the meaning implies the movement of the sun, the moon and other planets into one of the zodiacal orbits. And the Grand Songkran Festival which falls on the Aries indicates the novel era of the traditional Thai New Year. In order to welcome the New Year, the celebration will comprise the fun-filled local entertainments which combine the mutual relationship between members of the family, the society and the surrounding.

Having the influence from India, the Songkran festival mirrors the traditional mode of life of the Thais which involves the cultural and agricultural aspects. Free from their regular routine task, the Thai citizens will find time to perform their yearly rites of showing respect to their elder relatives and departed ancestors. Moreover, there is a deep spiritual aspect to this grand festival nationwide. Even though Thailand has adhered to the international calendar since 1941, celebrations of the Songkran festival, presently set on April 13 and extending over the following two days, remain a more auspicious chance than January.

Historically speaking, the Songkran festival has its origin during the Sukhothai period. It was practiced both in the royal court palace and among the ordinary citizens. However, the dimension of the celebration had not been as boisterous as of today. In the old days, civil servants and other government officials would pay homage to the king and would drink the oath of allegiance to the government, while the king would bestow annual salary to all officials. Later on in the Ayutthaya period, the festival had been expanded by including the bathing of the Buddha images. Also, the celebration would comprise the forming of sand pagodas and colorful activities. In the Rattanakosin period, the festival had been performed in the same way as those during the Ayutthaya period.

The Songkran festival extends three important ritual days, from April 13-15. These days are called respectively: Wan Sangkan Long, Wan Nao and Wan Taleung Sok. It is customary that during the Songkran festival there is an announcement of the name of Nang Songkran of the year, her vehicle, her food preference and much more. To forecast the affluence of that year, it is worth knowing the amount of rainfalls and the number of Naga or legendary serpent which is responsible for the provision of water. The prediction for the New Year will be done in relation to that particular day of the Nang Songkran. This year, the Songkran's Day falls on April 14. This means that Nang Songkran for 2007 is "Kimitatevee", dressed in white with topaz ornament, preferred banana, dagger in the right hand, Indian vina in the left hand and buffalo as her vehicle.

Songkran is a festival that serves a multitude of social and religious functions. It typically involves merit making, releasing birds and fish into rivers, presenting food and other offerings to monks, listening to sermons, building sand pagodas, paying respect to elders and splashing of water. Traditionally, houses have been meticulously cleaned the day before to ensure no bad luck is brought into the New Year. Later on the day in private ceremonies away from the temple, parents, grandparents, older relatives and teachers are honored by younger generations in a sacred ritual. Young people will pour fragrant water onto the palms of the older persons and also give them new clothes to show their respect and gratitude. It is believed that this watering ceremony would bring the young excellent health, longevity and prosperity.

The Songkran festival is essentially related to water as Thai people believe that water splashing will bring abundant rainfalls in the incoming year. Water is also a symbol of fertility and is employed to clean up bad things. It is thus used widely in different ceremonies and rites of passage. Not surprisingly, one of the most vital parts of Songkran is the bathing of Buddha images. People will sprinkle water onto the images as a gesture of respect. A procession of Buddha images will be made prior to the bathing. After that people will also bathe the senior Buddhist monks by pouring water over them. The chief monk or abbot will then give a sermon and bless people who participate in these bathing rituals. And finally, people will enjoy splashing water at one another.

Like many other festivals in Thailand, Songkran is celebrated with a zest and passion for having a great time that is uniquely Thai. In Bangkok, some famous venues for the Songkran festival include Khao Sarn Road, Bang Lamphoo District, Sanarm Luang and Phra Arthit Road in the Rattanakosin Island. Other sites of interest and events are Krung Kao Ayutthaya Songkran Festival (Old Capital of Songkran), well-known Thai-Mon Songkran Festival in Samut Prakan, Nong Khai, Chiang Mai and Phuket. In addition, the neighboring countries such as Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos have organized this type of festival with high-spirited celebrations.

Highlights of the Songkran festival in these major cities include making merit to the monks, Buddha image procession, bathing Buddha images, setting free of birds and fish, erecting sand pagodas, blessing and being blessed by elders and senior government officers as well as enjoying water splashing. Additionally, tourists can watch traditional Thai performances as well as modern films and music, competition in the topic of the history of Songkran. There are also parades, carnivals, beauty contests (Miss Songkran and Miss Ladyboy Songkran) as well as the light and sound presentation relating to the legend of Songkran. The consumption of much local food, Thai dessert cooking, local sports and art exhibitions complete the festival.

Across the country, most young Thai people celebrate the New Year by gently throwing water over one and all with a word of blessing. Scoops from a silver bowl are traditional, but these days more effective soakings come from plastic buckets, pump-action water guns and even oil drums with stirrup pumps mounted on trucks. It is, however, all good-natured with the Thai's communicable sense of fun. While the more traditional rites are best observed today in the villages and although Bangkok, Ayutthaya and Chiang Mai are known for the most exuberant celebrations, you will get wet and encounter Songkran wherever you are. It is the festival to give a lot of fun for all of us and welcome the traditional Thai New Year with a cool soaking of water in the most sweltering time of the year.

Backpacking Trip

Many people are looking for a more active and healthy alternative to the typical vacation. Some are heading out into various beautiful wilderness areas on backpacking trips. Or they may be traveling to far away cities around the world. Whether looking for inexpensive and adventurous ways to get away from it all or having had some hiking and camping experiences in the past, planning a backpacking trip could fulfill your needs.

There are many things that people think about when they hear the term backpacking trip. For some, it recalls urban backpacking culture, where men and women would crisscross the urban landscape with their backpacks, living without anything except what rests in their packs. To others backpacking often refers to an intense, outdoor camping experience. A backpacking trip can take a single weekend or a few months, depending on what the backpacker wants. Traveling by backpack can take you across the globe. A backpacker can see the landscape and meet people on a personal basis at a slower pace.

There has been a significant increase in backpacking trips across places like southeast Asia. You may find backpackers in a truly wide variety of areas. Not only will they frequent the cities, but they will also head out into vast stretches of wilderness, displaying a truly formidable type of self-reliance. If you are interested in backpacking trips, don't worry! There's no need to start off in this fashion; you will find plenty of different opportunities to hit the trail, many of them no further than your own home state.

There is a real trend of environmental awareness on many backpacking trips. You will find that many people subscribe to the idea that you should take only photographs, leave only footprints and kill only time. This is an environmentally responsible credo and you will find that when you go backpacking that you are often responsible for your own trash, so plan accordingly. There are many different ways that experienced backpackers will conserve resources and reduce their waste products.

There are many ways to get started backpacking; few people simply hit the trail alone. Most often, people end up going with friends or family that will give them a lifelong love of the event, but other people won't be introduced until a great deal later in their life. You will find that if you are really determined and can't talk any of your friends or family into going with you, you will find that there are plenty of backpacking tours and guides that are available. Even if you can't find anyone else who is interested, there is no reason you can't take to the trail on your own.

A good backpacking trip can really change your entire life and world view. When you go backpacking, you will find that getting away from it all means a lot more than just turning your cell phone off. There are plenty of different reasons why you might want to go on a backpacking trip, but one great reason to go is to give yourself time to think. Find out a little bit more about this overwhelmingly rich opportunity by heading to backpacking trip.

Hands-On Holidays

I've never been a fan of the beach holidays that everyone I know seems to prefer. I'm sure that for them sitting by the beach and perhaps diving in occasionally is paradise. For me, though, I prefer to do something a little different, and luckily my husband agrees. I'm an active person and I prefer to be engaged with the culture I'm visiting, not cut off by resort walls and confined to a compound. So I began doing a little research into holidays that would allow me to learn new things and explore new places. There are museums almost everywhere, but I prefer to try things for myself, and so I looked for hands-on fun. As it turns out, there are a wide variety of places that have unconventional activities to bring a new couple together. I only had to look in two locations to find a variety of things to do that may not be possible anywhere else.

Since Laos is among the least modernized of all Asian countries, perhaps it isn't entirely a surprise that there are many traditional activities that a couple or even a single person can engage in, depending on the time of year. Rice is still cultivated the traditional way, and in more remote areas guests can try their hand at either planting or harvesting in the rice paddies. Experience for yourself the way that Laotian rice farmers have lived and worked for hundreds of years. I'd also have fun digging for gold in the nearby river. Finding a real gold nugget is unlikely, but would be so exciting! In that same river, you can spend a day fishing and have your day's catch prepared for your dinner. I'm not a fan of fish so I'm not sure I'd be thrilled about that, but certainly anyone who likes fresh, sustainably caught fish will delight in the day.

Thailand is more popular with tourists, and perhaps as a result many traditional Thai activities are available to experience. You can spend half a day learning a skill that will remain with you for the rest of your life, or experience historic Thailand for yourself. One of the best ways to do this is with a canal ride through Bangkok, seeing places that ordinary tourists rarely get to visit. There is plenty to visit in the city, of course, but once you leave, there is even more to do. If you've ever seen the film Bridge over the River Kwai, perhaps you'd also like to go over it yourself. You can also take a trip on the railroad, known as the "Death Railway", that took so many lives in construction during World War II.

There are a few more hands-on activities in Thailand as well. My favourite would be learning how to give a traditional Thai massage. This massage keeps the recipient fully clothed, but the masseuse tends to use elbows and even knees in various ways! Surely all the skills can't be imparted to me in just half a day, but I'm certain it would improve my current massage technique and provide a lot of fun in the meantime. Exciting and perhaps a little terrifying is the prospect of spending the day learning to be a mahout, or an elephant trainer. These huge animals are majestic and beautiful, but I'm not entirely sure I'd want to ride one. That, however, is entirely up to you! It's also possible to visit the Lisu Lodge and experience Lisu culture for yourself, enjoying a traditional steam bath or ox cart ride. Sadly I haven't found a place to learn the Lisu dances, but I'm sure a tour company will offer it eventually.

In short, there is a lot more to do on a luxury holiday than just sit by a beach, which you might as well do closer to home. There are a lot more ideas provided by Turqoise Holidays. If you spend a lot of money travelling to an exotic location, why not experience local culture to the fullest extent?

You visit Surin islands, again stopping at a couple of top lunge sites.

But the most fantastic moment comes when a small husk of dolphins swim alongside our boat. How are barely credible to see this while traveling to and from tropical paradises. There tends to be more boats that have come from Phuket for the diving around the Simolan Islands. The largest groups of non-Thai people are the Chinese who have traditionally played an extremely important role in the economy. Many have assimilated into majority Thai society, and do not live in Bangkok's Chinatown on Yaowarat Road. Bahamas Fishing Tours - Are You Game?

There are netfuls of game fishing tours that can take you to discover the bounty in the waters around Bimini. There is incredible fishing on offer throughout the year, but certain times yield the best results for different types of game fish. The best Bahamas fishing tours are fully certified and insured, and come stocked with the latest equipment and a champion game fisherman or two.

Why Fish in the Bahamas?

Game fishing in The Bahamas is some the best fishing to be found anywhere. There is a massive variety in the fish to be caught and, since there are 700 islands, there is no shortage of fishing spots - that means not having to share the same patch of ocean with other fishing charters. The coral reefs, cays, sea mounts, walls, trenches and holes make Bahamas fishing trips a unique and satisfying experience as you explore with your hook, line and sinker. In order to get the most out of your fishing trip and come back with an impressive trophy and more than a few stories to tell, you need to know the best places to anchor up and get the big game fish.

Experience Game Fishing with the Experts

When you are looking for a tour, ensure that you select a business that has been operating for a while with positive testimonials and reviews. They should be fully certified and insured and have a boat that is fully equipped with the latest fishing equipment to ensure that you have the best chance of bringing in a dream catch. Some of the Bahamas fishing tour companies also have guides on deck that are champion game fishermen themselves. They bring on board a wealth of experience and intimate knowledge of the sea in order to give you the most rewarding game fishing experience available in The Bahamas. With this in mind, it is worth shopping around to find the boat tours that really impress you with what they have to offer.

Discover the Underwater Treasures around Bimini

Bimini is the most famous fishing spot of all those throughout The Bahamas. Fishing in the northern part of the archipelago around Bimini is so fruitful that it has been dubbed the fishing capital of the world! There are plenty of big game fishing charters that will take you out to land the big one, which could be a marlin, amberjack or mackerel. Bimini has the added benefit of being very accessible, thanks to its proximity to Florida only a stone's throw away. All of the major tourist islands of The Bahamas are able to offer impressive game fishing tours. Look out for charters off Nassau, Grand Bahama Island, Freeport and Paradise Island.

The fishing off Bimini is fruitful all throughout the year, but for game fishing there are certain times of the year that yield better results than others. Winter is wahoo and mackerel season in The Bahamas - fishing off the waters of Bimini can land you some of the biggest fish around. Starting in spring and continuing through the summer you will need your chair fixed firmly to the deck to bring in prize size sail fish, white marlin, blue fin tuna and dolphin. Summer time is the season for the smooth waters that appeal to barracuda and grouper. You will often find them hanging around the wrecks and reefs, and in the shallower waters the bone fish are bountiful and make for fun fishing.

The Similan Islands - Thailand's Crown Jewels

About Similan Diving

The Similan Islands are renowned as one of the ten best dive spots in the world. This is not referring to a single dive site, or a single wreck...this is due to the 50+ named dives sites, the incredible diversity of marine life and the variety of styles available to divers.

Located 50 Km (35 miles) of the west coast of Thailand - The Similan Islands are easily accessible. Khao Lak is the departure point for daytrips, overnight tours and Similan liveaboards as it is the main pier and the closest point of land. Easily reached are also the Surin Islands, Richelieu Rock and even some great wrecks that can easily be reached by longtail from Khao Lak.

The diving and snorkeling consists of vast reefs of pristine corals on the protected East coast of the Similans. There is incredible diving and encounters with huge marine life on the deep boulder sites on the West coast of the Similan Islands. At the top and bottom of the islands, where these different styles of sites meet, one finds opportunities for such amazing marine life as Manta Rays, Whale Sharks, Sharks, Napolean Wrasse and more.

While there can be currents - the Similan Islands are accessible to all levels of divers. Choosing the right dive center can assure the visitor of the idyllic experience. Experienced staff and intimate knowledge of the area make the choices easy. For the experienced diver - the deep sites with their strong currents and huge fish make are clear favorites. For the avid fish fanatic as well as the beginning divers, the gently sloping reefs tend to have minimal currents and incredible biodiversity.

The islands can be reached by liveaboards, Khao Lak Diving daytrips and snorkeling boats. It is very important to note that the islands are closed from May1st to November 1st each year. It is both unsafe - due to heavy monsoons, and illegal to visit the park during this closure.

Day trip Diving

Diving Day Trips to the Similan Islands with speed boats from Khao Lak. This day trip is for guests who don't have the time to do a liveaboard safari or for those of you who wish to enjoy the comfort of a resort each evening in Khao Lak. Most daily trips to the Similan Islands cater to both diving and snorkeling. Accommodation is available on some of the Similan Islands for a spectacular 2 days & 1 night overstay diving package. Plan far in advance for that as spaces are limited!!!

Similan Liveaboard Diving

There are several Similan Liveaboards departing from Khao Lak. There are some of the most luxurious boats in the world all the way down to very bare-bones boats catering to backpackers (lacking beds they sleep on the decks).

Trips range from 1 night tours to 7 or more days. To get a basic sampling of the Similan Islands, try at least a 3 day tour. If you would like a rich experience and sample all the region has to offer, then a 5 day Similan Liveaboard trip is perfect.

The real benefit of liveaboard trips over day trips is the chance to see more of the islands and truly enjoy the evenings on the Andaman sea. There are generally more dives per day and the chance to get to know your fellow divers. In addition getting to know your staff also means they can better cater to your needs. On good Similan Liveaboard tours you will also get the chance to visit the islands, snorkel and experience the islands first hand.

Food in Thailand

Thailand is a country that is best being explored with all your senses - specially your tastebuds though! Because Thai people love their food. And if you have an adventurous tongue, then you'll appreciate the diversity that Thai food has to offer too.

The most popular Thai dishes
Some of the most favourite dishes among foreign visitors to Thailand are Pad Thai (fried noodles), Tom Yam Kung (a sour-spicy shrimp soup), Tom Ka Gai (a chicken curry with coconut milk) and the Massaman Curry (a speciality from southern Thailand).

Ingredients of Thai Cuisine
The probably most noticable ingredient of Thai cooking is: chili. Even though it's not an original Thai ingredient - it has just been introduced to Thailand a couple of hundred years ago by Portugese traders who brought it from South America - it's hard to imagine Thai cooking without chillis nowadays.

Fortunately for you, most Thai people nowadays know that Westerners prefer a milder taste and often have a hard time dealing with original Thai spiciness and will prepare dishes "mai ped" (not spicy) if cooking for European or American visitors.

Coconut milk is another popular ingredient. It's being made by pressing with flesh of coconuts with water, and gives a meal a nice, mild, soft, round note that counterbalances the spiciness.

Lemongrass is also a commonly used ingredient because it makes a dish taste pleasantly fresh. Different sorts of herbs like Thai basilicum, ginger, galangal, tumeric and cilantro are also commonly used. Note that in Thai cuisine, herbs are almost always used fresh, not dried. This is partly because fresh herbs tend to cool the body down in comparison to dried herbs, which often have "heating properties".

Eating in Thailand: A Shared Experience
There is a distinct difference between the eating habits of Thai people and people from European or American descent. Western people tend to order separate dishes, even when eating together. Thai people on the other hand order several dishes which will then be positioned in the middle of the table. Everybody gets his own plate of rice, and then everybody eats from these foodladen plates. It is not common to load your own food on your own table. Instead, you always take another spoonful from the shared plate, mix it with some rice, and eat it, and take another spoonful from the shared plates. Loading up food on your on plate is considered impolite for Thai people.

Vegetarian Food in Thailand?
Many people are under the impression that Thailand is a country where there are lots of vegetarians. However, this is not the case. Even most vegetarian dishes (like fried mixed vegetables) are prepared with either fish sauce or oyster sauce (both of which are made from either fermented fish or oyster essence). If you communicate that you are vegetarian however, they will prepare vegetarian food for you, but you should then learn to communicate that in Thai before arriving in Thailand.

Beancurd is most often also just another condiment in a dish, and seldom the main ingredient. Even though it is commonly used in Thailand, it most often is just added to a dish that contains meat for bigger variety.

A Tantalising Thai Dinner Party

I'm not sure about where you live but here in Sydney, Thai food is so popular that most suburbs have at least one Thai restaurant if not 20! This may be a bit of an exaggeration but you get the drift - it's capital "P" for popular!

So, when you're planning a dinner party at home it makes sense to serve your guests a type of food that people seem to love. Thai food is your perfect option. It's exotic, clean and light and best of all, delicious!

Thai cuisine is known for its balance of five fundamental flavors. Most Thai dishes tend to incorporate all of these flavors if not most. These flavors are:

- hot (spicy - chili)

- sour (vinegar, lime juice, tamarind)

- sweet (soft brown sugar, fruits, sweet peppers)

- salty (soy sauce, fish sauce)

- bitter (which is optional)

The great thing with Thai food is that instead of dried herbs they use a lot of fresh herbs and spices and fish sauce. The aromas are sensational.

Since 95% of Thais are Buddhists, they leave religious offerings of fruit at the base of a Buddha statue with burning candles, incense and the like in restaurants. There is a peacefulness that this brings as you lay witness to the scene. You will also often find photos of their much loved and long serving King.

You could re-create a Thai space in your dining room by adding the smell of a subtle incense and making the lighting softer than usual. If you don't have a light dimmer try lighting the dining room with some candles or lamps to create a lovely ambiance.

If you can get hold of some Thai classical music this would be lovely for background sound - or at else some other oriental-inspired music.

Thais don't generally use chop sticks to eat - rather a fork and a dessert-like spoon but if you want the Asian touch (Thailand is in South-East Asia) feel free to provide each guest with a pair of chopsticks. Consider a wooden or bamboo place mat at each guest's place.

As a centerpiece to your table you could fill a long shallow bowl with water and place floating candles atop. You could also try to purchase some exotic looking flowers. On my trips to Thailand, orchids and the like have adorned the table settings. The whole experience of eating is pure pleasure.

For starters you could serve one of their delicious soups like a hot and spicy Tom Yum Goong (spicy and sour prawn soup) or a Tom Yum Kai which is similar but with chicken.

You could also serve Thai fish cakes, spring rolls in rice paper, curry puffs, satay chicken or deep fried chicken wings - with dipping sauce of course.

For main - stir fries, whole fish, Thai curries (green, red, yellow, Masaman, etc) or the ever popular noodle dishes like Pad Thai or Pad See Yu. Don't forget the steamed rice served in a covered rice bowl in a central position on your table, so people can help themselves.

A platter of fresh exotic fruit or a mango sticky rice dish is wonderful for dessert.

You see, there are just so many recipe choices for your Thai meal. I would suggest checking the Internet for free recipes or getting hold of an easy Thai recipe book.

Most of the ingredients you will need are easily available at your local Asian specialty food store.

Koh Chang, Thailand

If you are wanting to visit another Island in Thailand apart from the usual Phuket, Krabi or Phi Phi, I think you should try Koh Chang. My wife and I visited many Thailand forum and were told that Koh Chang is one of the best places to go. We booked accommodation (2 nights) and all we needed now was transport to get to Koh Chang as we live in Bangkok. To get there, it was going to be a 4 hour bus ride from the eastern bus terminal in Ekkamai, Bangkok and a 1 hour ferry. The total price of the transport was under 1000 baht for both of us. If you wanted to take your car to Koh Chang, you can as the ferry can also take cars to and from the island.

After a long trip, we finally made it to Koh Chang, I was excited as my friends have told me about how nice Koh Chang is. After we got off the ferry we were met by songthaew's (Pickup truck bus/taxi) to take us to our resort, the road to get to the resort was very windy and in a bad state, so if you plan on driving, please take care.

We got to our resort and it was really beautiful, our bungalow was 20 meters from a nice white sandy beach, the beach was on our resort, so there was one a few people there which was nice. The water was crystal clear and the beach was spotless, it was great place to relax for the rest of the day, we noticed that it is not over crowded with tourists which is great as you can really relax on the beach peacefully.

We heard that the nightlife here is not really that big, but who needs a nightlife on a nice island which their is so many activities to do during the day. So we booked a snorkeling tour around other small island around Koh Chang, while their is some nice spots to snorkel, you can find much better places down south of Thailand, but it was still a decent tour to go on.

The people on there seemed to be a lot more friendly then what you usually see in popular Phuket or Koh Samui, the smiles on the locals faces seemed a lot more genuine, it has a really great atmosphere to it.

Their seems to be a lot of development going on now in Koh Chang as it is getting a lot more popular with tourists, so I would recommend to go there now, as in a few years the island will be crowded with tourists.

So if you are in Thailand and want to go to an island that is no over crowded with tourists, I would go to Koh Chang, only the frequent travelers know about it. Why go where the main crowd is? You will have a much better and peaceful experience in Koh Chang, after all that is what being on holiday is about right?
